I developed a passion for legal translation during my graduate program and have been studying the nuances of this field ever since. My approach to legal translation blends a knowledge of linguistic features of Arabic and English legal documents with in-depth research on the different legal systems connected to the source text and target text. The types of legal documents I have experience translating are:

I have been working alongside NGOs and humanitarian organizations since 2015. I initially worked as a project coordinator at Learning for the Empowerment and Advancement of Palestinians (LEAP). This grassroots organization collaborates with Beit Atfal Assumoud in Lebanon to provide summer English programs to help students pass the national Brevet exam. While working for LEAP, I translated educational documents, cultural orientation materials for international volunteers, and communications with local coordinators. I also conducted fieldwork and interviews for a Palestinian heritage preservation cookbook. I participated in this work for 3 consecutive summers before beginning my master’s program in translation at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. During my graduate degree I reconnected with a Palestinian organization in Lebanon called Diyaruna and translated several pages for their local news website. These pages included mission statements, budget information, local news articles, and reports on several UN schools within the Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon. While in the US I have worked as a linguist and service coordinator for the International Institute of Wisconsin. I translated and implemented cultural orientation materials for LEP clients who were native speakers of Arabic. I have also been teaching Arabic in Milwaukee for the past 6 years.
